Journal Entry #4
Technology and its social media platforms have many positive and negative
implications in our society. One of the positive effects that technological platforms provides us
with is, with the power of being able to advertise your businesses through a screen, and help your
business grow. Social media also has the power to increase communication around the world and
across different cultures, and cause awareness on certain topics. Technological platforms also
have negative implications for example the overuse of technology can often lead to addiction,
specially when it comes to teenagers, it encourages teens to become more self centered, by
taking more selfies to get the most amount of likes, comments and attention, it makes teens fill a
void, having to feel accepted or liked by others which isn't healthy because one shouldn’t need
someone else’s comment or like to feel accepted or happy. Social media causes people to
compare themselves to others. Lastly spending countless amounts of hours on social media sites
implicates distractions from particular chores, school and even friendships.
Technology affects the way we view ourselves, also the way we see other people and the way we interact with people and with the world. Technology affects the way we see ourselves because we tend to compare ourselves with people that we might think are “prettier” than us or more “fit” than us, when most times what we really view on social media is a bunch of fake edited or photoshopped pictures that people try to make perfect, so the viewer can believe that they actually look like that. I believe that it affects my daily life because I personally use technology everyday, either to do my school work or to even heat up my food, or entertain myself. Technology can also affect the way we interact with each other, and it is sad because most times people don’t even interact with each other is like we are stuck to our phones.
