Reflection on Exploratory Essay
Writing this exploratory essay was very similar to writing a research paper. I’ve written
research papers before, so I had background information and experience in researching and
looking for reliable sources that helped me develop my point and ideas. I knew that this paper
required a lot of research, so first I attended to my Tuesday English tutoring appointment. Going
to the tutoring center helped me gather and explore around the databases that the CCNY ( The
City College of New York) library provides us with. I also started my exploratory essay by
looking for an interesting topic that I would be comfortable and able to write about. Since in
class and in journal entries lately we’ve been discussing about technology, I found it to be a
very interesting topic to write about.
Once I got my topic I went to the tutoring center to meet with my tutor we discussed the topic which is if “technology and its platforms making us more lonely?”. For me that most difficult part about writing this, I thought that it was going to be finding my scholarly peer reviewed articles to use as my sources. Instead of starting an outline my tutor and I worked on finding my sources. I accessed the CCNY online library and followed the steps the professor talked about in class. After finding my relevant sources, I went home and started developing my essay. I looked at the negative and positives effects that technology has on individuals. While writing my exploratory essay I used new writing techniques like writing two paragraphs for my intro and then labeling my other body paragraphs as I preceded developing my research. It was very interesting to further develop my research for a topic we are constantly discussing in class and that plays a big role in our lives.
